Hitchens: What does it mean?
In elementary school you may remember that time when you got find out what your family name meant. If you were like me, a history major in the making, you were excited to learn that the majority of last names were based on professions such as Baker, Smith, Miller… and most complicated ones such as Scrimshaw (my 4th grade teacher’s last name), Alderman (my 6th grade science teacher), and Wainwright.
But for some reason no one knew what Hitchens meant. I asked my family and they didn’t have a clue. I’ve tried researching it for years but with no luck. I cannot find the meaning of Hitchens anywhere. And it bugs me. Even my fiance knows the meaning of his last name (Melnick… I think it’s bricklayer but I will double check).
If anyone has any ideas of how I can find out the meaning of ‘Hitchens’ or knows the meaning offhand, please comment or send a message.
