Oh my goodness.
My cousin is researching the family as well (yay!) and had a picture of my great-grandmother, Berdia. It’s so nice to see a face of this legendary woman besides just a grave. I must say that Berdia looks… funky. I am not sure how old she was in the photo.
edit: sorry pics 1 & 4 are sideways. i don’t think i can fix it. boo. and p.s. if any one can tell me what exactly the graveyard cactus stuff is that would be amazing.
How do you clean graves? Or even gravesites? How about a combination of both in abandoned graveyards??
Last month I went back home and with my mom and fiance took numerous photos of my ancestors at three different cementaries. But at all three, the graves were dirty, cactus was everywhere, graves were sunken… What can I do? I don’t want my ancestors graves to look like this. They don’t deserve this. But one of the graveyards is no longer maintained.
So how can I clean up the graves?
Summer Days
All of these were taken in the summer of 1993.
The girl named Katrina in the first photo was my childhood best friend, who sadly moved away about a year after this was taken. I only saw her one time afterwards, at her mother’s second wedding. I still wonder where she is today.
The second photo with my father is special. I remember because my father NEVER got in the pool with us. So when he did this one time my mom snapped some pictures (have only found this one so far).
The last three I am pretty sure were taken the same day. My brother was/is a camera hog. lol. I remembered swimming up to the edge of the pool so my mom could take a picture of me in the second to last picture.
Me and my brother during the summer of 1994. He thought he was so cool. lol.
Question about Tintype Photos
There’s some old photos in the family bible that are tintype. Does anyone know if you can scan tintype photos without damaging them and in turn how do you take care of tintype photos?
Awkward Family Photos
I thought this would be a fun site for people’s amusement. :-)
Last Christmas my brother gave me the book of ‘Awkward Family Photos’. I instantly knew why he gave this to me since we had our share of awkward family photos.
I thought this website was semi relevant for family research. Have any of you found an awkward family photo in your search or remember being in one?
I wanted to thank genilinks for their help with my previous post. My issue has been resolved. :-) I wanted to show off the video they gave me to help me. I’m so happy!
ARGH!!!
Right now I am having a problem with the site I use for my family tree (geni). I found out that two of my relatives married the same woman (I know, fantastic, right? Tudor England is calling) and I previous did not know this. I only have her married to one of the males in the family. But I need to connect her husband’s brother and rework some stuff (like who’s kids were whose). But… it’s not letting me connect them together. I can add a whole new person but than I have a completey new profile which isn’t what I want. And if I deleted a profile and started again, I’m sure I’d just be back at square one since they don’t want to connect in the first place. :-( Not sure what to do. Any help?
Good news, bad news and a funny story.
Good news:
My cousin and his wife are pregnant again. So far, they only have one child that was born several years ago. They tried for another baby a couple years ago but she lost it early on. But this time they waited a bit longer to tell people she was pregnant. So I am hoping she will not lose this one. But here is the awesome news… they are having twins! Twins! We’ve never had twins in our family! This is amazing!
Bad news:
This same cousin of mine inherited the family homestead when my grandfather died. He didn’t do much with it. The house was over 100 years old (it had wooden pegs instead of nails to hold it together in some places) and would take a lot of money to fix up. So the old home just sat there. And of course… the homeless, drifters came to stay there illegally… people stole things. So apparently… a few months ago, my cousin bulldozed it. My mother didn’t even know about it until they drove by and it was gone. Of course, my mom didn’t tell me until today. She said it was too painful for her to say. I’m ultimately pissed at my cousin for bulldozing the family home, pissed at my cousin for never fixing up the home in the first place, pissed at my mother for keeping this from me for so long, upset that my grandparents’ home is completely gone, but also understanding why my cousin did what he did and understanding why my mother kept it from me. Below a picture I took of the house probably summer 2006. This is from the side of course, but it’s the best picture I have of a full view of the house.

Funny story:
My mom came by today and helped a little on my research. She included a funny story about her Aunt C. My mother had previously told that Aunt C was eccentric. My mother remembers one time when she was a little girl being at Aunt C’s house and Aunt C served them… are you ready for it? Raisin Pie! My mother said “Can you imagine? Raisin pie? It was disgusting!”
