Summer Days

All of these were taken in the summer of 1993.

The girl named Katrina in the first photo was my childhood best friend, who sadly moved away about a year after this was taken. I only saw her one time afterwards, at her mother’s second wedding. I still wonder where she is today.

The second photo with my father is special. I remember because my father NEVER got in the pool with us. So when he did this one time my mom snapped some pictures (have only found this one so far).

The last three I am pretty sure were taken the same day. My brother was/is a camera hog. lol. I remembered swimming up to the edge of the pool so my mom could take a picture of me in the second to last picture.

ARGH!!!

Right now I am having a problem with the site I use for my family tree (geni). I found out that two of my relatives married the same woman (I know, fantastic, right? Tudor England is calling) and I previous did not know this. I only have her married to one of the males in the family. But I need to connect her husband’s brother and rework some stuff (like who’s kids were whose). But… it’s not letting me connect them together. I can add a whole new person but than I have a completey new profile which isn’t what I want. And if I deleted a profile and started again, I’m sure I’d just be back at square one since they don’t want to connect in the first place. :-( Not sure what to do. Any help?

I feel like crying.

I caved in and have started a 14 day free trial on ancestory.com. The reason I decided to do it was because of my library account. Werid yes? On the library website they have a tab called ‘Delaware Genealogy Online’ so I clicked on it of course. It lead me to ancestory.com. Apparently the DE Public Archieves has put all of their stuff on there. So… it would be benefitical for me to use the free trial to find documents and perhaps expand my family tree. I am a happy girl. I have printed only one document for far, a marriage record for my great-great-grandfather and already I have information I did not know about before (i.e. my great-great-grandmother’s maiden name!). Love!

ETA: I just did start crying. Found my great-grandfather’s marriage certificate. It has his name and everything. And even his parents names… And it says it on black and white that he came from Norway. God, it’s so beautiful.

Hitchens: What does it mean?

In elementary school you may remember that time when you got find out what your family name meant. If you were like me, a history major in the making, you were excited to learn that the majority of last names were based on professions such as Baker, Smith, Miller… and most complicated ones such as Scrimshaw (my 4th grade teacher’s last name), Alderman (my 6th grade science teacher), and Wainwright.

But for some reason no one knew what Hitchens meant. I asked my family and they didn’t have a clue. I’ve tried researching it for years but with no luck. I cannot find the meaning of Hitchens anywhere. And it bugs me. Even my fiance knows the meaning of his last name (Melnick… I think it’s bricklayer but I will double check).

If anyone has any ideas of how I can find out the meaning of ‘Hitchens’ or knows the meaning offhand, please comment or send a message.
